10 Predictions for 2009_Online Video and one example of Semantic Processing on online Video,_

Longstanding-long suffering friends at the independent software company Asksam base in Florida drew my attention to the semantic processing in online Video by the company Delve Networks. The example Delve uses is the historical inaugual speeck of Presidend Barack Obama.

As usual on the web one search leads to another.

10 Predictions for Online Video and one example of Semantic Processing of online Video are due to Alex Castro the CEO and co-founder of Delve Networks, a complete end-to-end online video platform providing all the tools needed to publish Internet TV channels and online video.

Castro undelines such technological advances and innovations in online video as:
- the introduction of semantic processing,
-video hosting solutions, SaaS-Software as a Service
- monetization of video content.
And claims that it’s obvious that things have progressed from beyond "just" YouTube.
To be brief I have listed Alex's 10 Predictions eliminating comments. (Unpretentiously Alex invites interested readers-viewers to Add their own predictions to the comments below.)

1. Record year for video content consumption2. YouTube loses market share as market fragments.
2. YouTube loses market share as market fragments
3. Advertiser dollars will shift to more measurable and targeted online video
Traditional ad dollars will continue to migrate online as advertisers seek to ensure the most impact for their advertising dollars in these difficult economic times. The availability of detailed data about the performance of their ads and the viewers and customers who interact with them makes web video an extremely attractive medium for advertisers. (note for AdSense user)

4. Video monetization becomes reality – or at least starts to!

Professionally-produced content, targeted to specific audiences, will see a burst of excitement as advertisers will see this as a safe bet to put their money on. In response to the influx of advertising dollars, video publishers will need scalable platforms with a wide range of performance metrics.

Also, sites that offer a player with more “bells and whistles,” (end-user branding, video tagging, semantic widgets, etc.) will win out as viewers become more engaged and watch longer.

5. On-demand video platforms gain as the economy slumps.

6. Semantic web technologies emerge and prosper.

7. Syndication of content.

8. Small businesses embrace video advertising.

Back in 2001, small and medium sized businesses began to embrace search advertising. It was a way for them to grow their business in a tough environment, while making sure they had measurable results for their advertising spends. As companies deal with the worst of the recession in 2009, they will have to work even harder to be noticed by customers. Video advertising using self-service tools like Jivox, will be embraced by small and medium sized businesses looking to stand out.

9. Mobile video finally breaks out.

10. Barack Obama reinvents the fireside chat.

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com- New Widget with Enhanced Reader Functionality

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com

I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

However please do not hesitate to comment on this widget or on any other widget or issue for that matter.

Hope you enjoy the experience.

The Business of Carbon Management from FT_The Financial Times

While up-dating on the metallurgy, materials science and technological aspects of CO2 capture ,I stumbled-upon 5 or so excellent and environmentally encouraging videos on Carbon Management at Corporate Level. I warmly encourage readers to view these noting that public opinion until now is reported to sway Corporations to heed science's pleas for more responsible approaches to planetary issues. We shall need all our-you courage and determination to keep on our route to a clean and profitable global ecomony(ies).

NAP- National Academies Publications - New Widgets Introduction and Up-date

Just a short post to bring your attention to my introduction to a No. of NAP-Widgets throughout my 7 blogs. This uncommented "poor practice" in fact led to the creation of this special "Books_Journals_Tools page. "Killing two birds with one stone":

-Firstly, I have posted a short "Mea Culpa note on my main page.[LINK] commenting on a recent NAP pre-publication "Science and Decision" cf. side bar menus and

Secondly NAP have introduced a new widget to present the multiple functions available to readers; summaries, full online free reading and latest RSS feed. I am of course in the process of up-dating my site NAP-widgets. They do appear to be based, like my own much humbler effort, on the SpringWidget® design.

NB. If your side bar menu is a little too slim -it is a simple matter to reduce the width in the code, only two figures to change. In my case I modified one widget width from 175 to 155. cf my "Conversations-on-Innovations page LHS menu

Good luck and good reading over the festive season.
